"Shadow of the Vampire" takes us back to 1922 when Friedrich Murnau (John Malkovich) films Nosferatu. While the movie filming is progressing the actor who will play Nosferatu (Count Dracula) hasn't shown up. Max Schreck (Willem Dafoe) appears and starts shooting some scenes. Then he decides that in order to finish the movie, he wants the director to fulfill his desires.
Bram Stoker's Dracula [1992]
I believe this is the best movie based on Bram Stoker's classic novel, good actors Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves. A diabolically unhallowed soundtrack composed by Wojciech Kilar, the director Francis Ford Coppola delivers his imagination and makes the movie coherent by creating scenes that are really affiliated. The only negative of the movie is that the story is significantly altered.
The Ninth Gate [1999]
A film by Roman Polanski which is also based on a book called "The Club Dumas", a 1993 novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte. A rare book "investigator", Johnny Depp, gets an offer by Boris Balkan who collects rare books concerning Satan. Johnny Depp tries to locate the authentic Delomelanicon, a book rumored to be written by Lucifer himself. Soundtrack by Wojciech Kilar.
The Others [2001] This movie is based on Henry James's novel "The Turn of the Screw" (1898) rewritten(mainly the ending) and directed by Alejandro Amenábar. A woman who lives in a darkened old house with her two photosensitive children becomes convinced that her family home is haunted. Starring Nicole Kidman.

Sleepy Hollow [1999]
The movie is based on the Washington Irving's story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow first published in 1820. Johnny Depp in the role of Ichabod Crane is sent to investigate the murders in the village of Sleepy Hollow. A devilish apparition seems to be culpable for the decapitation of the residents. Tim Burton's fantasy is impulsive and sets the scenery for a haunting story.
